How To Set Up Your Google Marketing Tools Correctly

Dear future me, dear Internet reader,

This post is a personal note to remind myself of the process I’m going through with one website. Feel free to use the information presented here as a general guideline for your own projet.

I hope it saves me/you a headache or two!

Setting up your Google Products Accounts with a Gmail address

Don’t hestitate a second: start by creating a Google Tag Manager account as it is going to be the central place to store all tracking tags from across the various google product services you’ll use.

The products I use are:

  • Google Tag Manager
  • Google Analytics
  • Google Ads
  • Google Search Console

Create your Google Services accounts

  1. Using your organisation gmail address, create the following accounts in this order:
    • Google Tag Manager
    • Google Analytics
    • Google Search Console
    • Google Ads
  2. Verify your Google Search Console account using Domain verification preferrably. If you can’t, use URL Path verification.
  3. Set up your Google Analytics account
    • Create a GA4 property
    • Link your Google Analytics account to your Google Ads account and your Google Search Console Account
  4. Set up your Google Ads campaigns
